It was during his reign that the fateful St. Bartholomew’s Massacre happened, the religious war between the Huguenots and Catholics. He could have been a competitive king, but the pressure from his overbearing mother and his unstable mental health brought him down. He had that puppy eyes and exuded that impression that he wanted to be loved and the desire to live normally.
